Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (Japanese Lyrics)

(0)
Every two years, our school puts on a Summer Carnival where each year group gives a performance based around a different country. Last year, Year 3's country was Japan. The children learnt how to sing 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' in Japanese. They also performed a contemporary dance and wore traditional Japanese clothes and accessories. It was a fantastic event and the children loved every minute of it. I have uploaded the lyrics in case you would like to try something similar at your school. This link takes you to the music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGgOKEaMWZU

Visit Britain Leaflets

As part of our topic on 'Modern Britain', my Year 3 class created leaflets for tourists explaining some of the things they had learnt about Britain. There are three different leaflets included in this pack. The first is a blank trifold leaflet with lines which my higher ability group used. The second is another trifold leaflet, this time with subheadings given. The third is a simpler template for lower ability children, again with subheadings given.
BFG Playscript

BFG Playscript

Whilst reading the BFG by RoaldDahl, I wanted to teach the children about play scripts so I rewrote a section of Chapter 13 as a script. The children then had chance to read from the script, acting out different roles. They were also able to discuss and identify features of a play script using this resource. There are two versions of the script; one is aimed at the lower ability children and the language used has been simplified (no “BFG speak”). The other worksheet in this pack is to help the children to write their own BFG play script. I hope this can be a useful resource.
BFG Character Description

BFG Character Description

I created this resource to use with my Year 3 class when we were reading the BFG. The first worksheet has space for the child to design and draw their own giant with lines next to it so they can write a description. The second worksheet has a smaller box for the drawing of the giant. Next to this box is a fact file which the children can fill in and underneath this are lines for the children to write their character descriptions. The second worksheet is generic so could be used for creating a profile of any character.

BFG Alphabetical Order Activity

I created these resources whilst reading The BFG by Roald with my Year 3 class. The task is for the children to put some of the BFG’s nonsense words into their very own dictionary. The children can cut out and stick the words in order alphabetically then make up their own meanings for the words. In this pack, there are several different worksheets aimed at different ability groups. Some have more words and some have the alphabet included at the top of the page as support. Also, included in this pack is a worksheet where the meanings of some words are given and the children have to match the definition to the nonsense word. My Year 3 class really enjoyed making up their own definitions.

BFG Frobscottle Recipe

Whilst studying the BFG, I got my class to make their own Frobscottle using lemonade, ice cream and green food colouring. They then wrote up their recipes using these templates.

Charlotte's Web Letter Template

A template on which children can write a letter from Fern to her Uncle Zuckerman. The second file is for lower ability groups and it has sentence starters already on the sheet to aid children in their writing.
Charlotte's Web Speech Worksheets

Charlotte's Web Speech Worksheets

(2)
A set of resources made to aid the teaching of speech alongside reading 'Charlotte's Web'. One worksheet shows Templeton and Goose with empty speech bubbles so children can think about what they might say to each other. This is useful for lower ability children who are not yet ready to use speech marks in their writing. Another worksheet shows Templeton and Goose with completed speech bubbles so that children can "pop" the speech bubbles and write the dialogue with speech marks. The third worksheet in the pack also allows children to "pop" the speech bubbles but gives them a template within which to write the dialogue using speech marks.

Boxing Up Story Planner

This template allows children to 'box up' a traditional tale in order to make their own story. They can clearly see the main parts of the story then substitute in their own ideas and add further details.
Features of a Letter

Features of a Letter

(14)
Two worksheets where children can identify the features of a letter. The worksheet for the lower ability children has a word bank to aid them in labeling the features. The highest ability children could identify and colour the features of a letter then create their own key.

Compound Sentences Matching Game

I have used this as a Literacy Starter in Year 3. I cut up the different parts of sentences and gave them out. Each child had to find a partner who would complete their sentence. You could also use this as a main activity for Lower Ability children.
